Web Site Design and Development Projects

KMERA Corporation

Websites and business process visualization tools (1999-2002).
KMERA Corporation was a small services start-up with a focus on knowledge management and business continuity. In addition to Staff Consultant duties, I lent my services to build websites for public promotion, internal communication, and client team organization.

KMERA's corporate website was a simple brochure site with information about the company, its services and partners. Because our small team of consultants struggled to stay current on shared digital assets, I also built a "virtual library" intranet for team documents, useful research, and important contact information.

Several KMERA clients expressed a desire to tie teamwork more closely to business processes and goal-oriented thinking. To address this specific challenge, I transformed a sample process map into a simplified, interactive guide.

My objective was to build a tool that would demystify a complex process -- revealing it a phase at a time, then highlighting connections between phases, deliverables, and team members.

My prototype employed simple Javascript rollovers to highlight each phase. Team members could explore all phases (understand the "big picture") or focus on only those phases that involved them personally. Actions were linked to related documents, checklists and team contacts.

Early demonstrations of this interactive prototype were quite well received. Users were impressed with how simple visualizations, combined with interactivity, conveyed so much useful information.
